About the project
SASAM's mission is to drive the growth of AM to efficient and sustainable industrial processes by integrating and coordinating Standardisation activities for Europe by creating and supporting a standardisation organisation in the field of AM.
The Additive Manufacturing (AM) concept is based on additive freeform fabrication technologies for the automated production of complex products.
Additive Manufacturing is defined as the direct production of finished goods using additive processes from digital data.
A key advantage is that AM eliminates the need for tooling, such as moulds and dies, that can make the introduction of new products prohibitively expensive, both in time and money. This enables the production of forms that have been long considered impossible by conventional series production—in fact, they can be created fast, flexibly, and with fewer machines.

Mission and work
The mission of the SASAM project is to promote the growth of additive manufacturing (AM) to become a family of efficient and sustainable industrial manufacturing processes by integrating and coordinating standardization activities within the European AM community and other stakeholders. This will be realized primarily in coordination with ISO/TC261, but also through collaboration with ASTM F42 and the recently initiated CEN/Cenelec STAIR platform for additive manufacturing. With this aim, three support action WPs have been established within the project.

SASAM 4th General Assembly
Last September, 26th the 4th General Assembly of SASAM Project was successfully held at CEN in Brussels. This partner meeting was followed by an open workshop event for stakeholders together with STAIR-AM on September 27th at CEN in Brussels.
Within the first meeting, a wrap-up of the project status was shown by the project coordinator and the WP leaders presented the activities carried out within their work packages. Thus, the AM standardization requirements document was presented, as well as the roadmap for Additive Manufacturing on standardization. Results within the defined WG, already working on standardization, were shown and dissemination actions carried out for all, the SASAM project and those events displayed. Finally, the planning of the next steps defined.
On 27th, the enriching stakeholders’ event was held with success. Apart from SASAM project and its advances, including the Standardization roadmap, the STAIR AM initiative, an update standardization action worldwide and some related projects were made known. Jointly to the SRA AM 2013 and JRC final reports, all served as a base for the discussion of the round table with the stakeholders. Within this round table, the position of the European AM standardization stakeholders was discussed and future activities should strengthen their international influence. Additionally the position of the European AM standardization stakeholders was discussed and future activities should strengthen their international influence.
Let’s thank the event organizers for their great efforts on managing all that.
